Bereavement Care following Pregnancy Loss

How Medical Social Work Supports Bereaved Families

Medical Social workers are acutely aware of the unique experience of loss in pregnancy. In collaboration with the Bereavement Midwife we support bereaved families. We can provide practical supports and counselling, validating the common difficult experiences of such loss. We ensure each woman has the opportunity to express and recognise her loss and grief response. We support women regardless of the type of loss they have experienced.

Willow Pregnancy Loss Support Group provides a safe space for bereaved parents to meet. Medical Social workers along with specialist Midwives and a bereaved parent provide this peer support bereavement group on a monthly basis. All are welcome regardless of age, stage or type of pregnancy loss.

Willow Pregnancy Loss support Group:

Meet every second Thursday of the month, 7 – 8.30pm, in the Parlour room, Ground floor, Nurses Home, Galway University Hospital.
