We understand that some people may associate social work primarily with child protection services (Tusla). However, medical social work is different. Medical social work is a voluntary and consent based service which is part of the multidisciplinary team in UHG and is under the remit of the HSE not Tusla. Our main aim is to provide emotional support, practical assistance and signpost to appropriate services. Medical Social Workers prioritise creating a safe, confidential environment for all patients. We respect your privacy and are here to support you without judgment. Like all professionals in medical settings, Medical Social Workers are mandated to report any concerns about child safety to the appropriate authorities, such as TUSLA where concerns in relation to a child’s health or welfare are raised.

On occasion when Tusla are involved we endeavor to support families and professionals with the best interests of the child remaining as the foundation for our intervention.
